IDPs to launch two-prong campaign to retrieve their properties

Internally displaced families from Valigamam division in Jaffna district have decided to launch two-prong campaign to retrieve their houses and lands from the occupation of the Sri Lanka Army. SLA currently occupies houses and agricultural lands of the several thousands internally displaced people in the Jaffna district in the name of high security zones, IDPs Federation sources said.

Organizing committee of the IDPs Federation has already taken steps to launch a fast unto death campaign next week in front of the office of Tellipalai Divisional Secretariat if the SLA failed to hand over their houses and agricultural lands. In addition, organizers have sought legal opinion to file cases in the superior court against the SLA occupation.

Mr.S.Ganeshan, President of the IDPs' Federation said his organization would provide all assistance to the IDPs to take legal action against the Government and the SLA and also to launch fast unto death protest till their houses and lands are returned by the SLA.
