Trinco Rotarians hold medical camp in Eachilampathu villages

The Trincomalee Rotary Club last weekend conducted a one-day medical clinic in the village Muttuchenai, which is located in the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam ( LTTE )-held Eachilampathu division in the
Trincomalee district. Rotarian Dr.E.G.Gnanakunalan organized the clinic with the assistance of Capt. Charles Gnanakone of Humanitarian Rehabilitation Services of NE (Lanka) Ltd, Colombo, who provided thirty thousand rupees worth of medicine to the clinic, sources said.

Mr. Manoharan, the area Public Health Inspector, Eastern Human Economic Development ( EHED ) & Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRC) volunteers took part in the clinic. The medical team comprised two medical officers, Dr.E.G.Gnanakunalan and Dr.S.Sathaharan, and two dispensers. Six
Rotarians led by Rotary Club Secretary, Mr.S.Jeyashankar, and Chairman of the Trincomalee Non-Governmental Organizations Consortium, Mr.T.Thavasilingam, participated in the event, sources said. People from remote villages such as Muttuchenai, Valaithoddam, Verugal Muhathuwaram, Mawadichenai, Karukamunai and Punnaiyadi attended the clinic.
About 300 patients were provided with medicines for various ailments. Elderly patients were subjected to blood and urine checks for diabetes and other ailments, Rotary sources said. In addition small children were provided with biscuits. After the clinic village leaders had discussed their problems with the Rotarians. The important issues which included drinking water for domestic use, health issues, education of school children and about income generation activities in their areas were discussed. Rotarians promised to look into these issues. Visiting medical officials assured the villagers
that they will again visit their area to provide medical and other humanitarian assistance to them on witnessing the poor living condition prevailing in the area, sources said
