"Peace building" officials visit Kapputhoo

Kapputhoo, a village located in the Vadamarachchi South-West division in Jaffna district, has been selected as "Peace Village" under the Project of Peace Building Measure of the
Government of Sri Lanka. A team of officials led by Project Director Professor Laksiri Fernando,Saturday visited the
village and assessed the situation, district secretariat sources said.
About seventy-five families live in Kapputhoo village. Representatives of villagers briefed the team on the urgent needs that could improve the day-to-day lives of the residents of Kaputhoo. Proposals including self-employment and income generating projects and rehabilitation of the Kuilankandu road to alleviate transport problems were handed over to the visiting officials. The team of officials was also told to take immediate steps to stop sea water entering the Thondamanaru lagoon making
paddy lands in the area saline and depriving people of good drinking water, sources said.
