Public sector employees to receive pay hike

Public sector employees will be given a substantial salary increase in the maiden budget of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) scheduled to be presented on November 12 this year, said UPFA media spokesman and Media Minister Mr. Mangala Samaraweera addressing post -Cabinet press briefing Thursday.

He added his government has no intention of giving interim allowance to public sector employees as done in past but would announce an increase in their salary structure.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), a major constituent party of the UPFA government, demanded that the government should reveal its decision on the salary increase in advance without waiting till the Budget day, sources said.

Some government leaders have speculated that the salary increase would be in the range of three thousand rupees to five thousand rupees.
