Miss T.Indranee, a teacher conducting evening classes to drop-out students
the under UNICEF project ''Regaining Lost Education'' in Mirusuvil north in Thenmaradchchi in Jaffna
district Thursday complained to the Jaffna regional office of the
Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka
(HRCSL) that she and her students had been severely assaulted by
Kodikamam Police Tuesday,
education sources said.
A group of about fifteen policemen from Kodikamam Police had gone in a jeep
to the institution Tuesday evening and started assaulting the teacher and
students without any reason, Miss. Indranee said in her complaint to the HRCSL. All students assaulted by the Police are under 18 years of age and
had dropped out of formal education due to the two-decade old war. These students attend evening
classes in an educational institution
located at Chuttipuram in Mirusuvil north, sources said. The UNICEF project is supported by the Deparment of Education.
