Fingerprints to appear on Sri Lanka passports[TamilNet, Monday, 27 September 2004, 13:29 GMT]Applicants will have to provide finger prints when they apply for passports, Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka said in a press release issued in Colombo today. The new regulation goes into effect on 1st October the release said. Controller of Immigration, Mr.T.Jinadasa, in the press release stated that abuses have kept proliferating, because scanned photographs now affixed to the passports are being replaced fraudulently. An invisible thumb impression on the passport could put an end to the prevalent abuses, the press release added.
