Pt.Pedro UC asks SLA to return council building

The administration of the Point Pedro Urban Council (UC) in Vadamaradchchi division in Jaffna district again requested the Jaffna area command of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) to release its land and buildings now being used as the headquarters of SLA 524 Brigade since 1995, local government sources said.

Point Pedro UC is functioning in a rented out private building outside the high security zone within the UC limit. The owner has filed a case to evict the UC from his building, sources said.

With no convenient building available to move into, the UC administration is taking maximum effort to convince the SLA Jaffna command to release the UC building and the rest house which are inside the HSZ.

UC Secretary has sent copies of his memorandum to the Governor of North East Province, Provincial Commissioner of Local Government and Mr.M.K.Sivajilingam, Jaffna district parliamentarian, sources said.
