Two fishermen killed

Two fishermen were killed and two were wounded in the early hours this morning around 4 a.m. when the Sri Lankan Army at the Valaichenai Fisheries harbor camp fired on them. The four fishermen had set out fishing in their boats in the Valaichenai Lagoon.

The SLA said that they had opened fire upon observing the movement of the Liberation Tigers in the Valaichenai lagoon near the island of Naasivantheevu.

The dead fishermen were identified as Kachi Mohammad Razak and Nallathamby Amirthalingam.

The condition of the wounded fishermen, M.C Masoordeen 37 and D.Asanaar 38 is serious said Hospital sources.

They were transferred from the Valaichenai Hospital to the Batticaloa Hospital this afternoon.
