Thirty beneficiaries were selected from hundreds of war-affected families applied for the assistance under the SIGIP. The handing over bullocarts took place at Punnaiady in front of the newly opened TRO divisional office for Eachchilampathu division. Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the LTTE handed over the first bulls and cart to a woman beneficiary who lost her breadwinner in the war, followed by TRO Trincomalee district Director Mr.Kiruba and other personalities to other beneficiaries. Later Mr.Kiruba visited the two groceries opened by two beneficiaries who also have lost their breadwinners in the war. The beneficiaries bought stock of rice, flour and other essential items for the shops. Beneficiaries opened their shops by lighting traditional oil lamps, sources said. Earlier Mr.Kiruba held discussion with the selected beneficiaries under the SIGIP in Eachchilampathu division at the TRO office located in Punnaiady village. Mr.Kiruba said that the extension of this project to other affected depends on the performance of the first batch of beneficiaries. Beneficiaries who obtained assistance should utilize this opportunity to not only to develop their economy but also to help other families waiting for this assistance, sources said.
