About 300 families living in Kottaikadu village in Jaffna district undergo hardships without drinking water in their area as the only available well is overflowing with floodwater due to heavy rain. Kottaikadu village is located in Valigamam division. Sand bunds constructed
by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers prevent rain water flowing into the sea resulted in flooding the village including the only well villagers use for drinking water, civil sources said.
People daily walk with pots on heads about 3 k.m. to the village Arali to fetch drinking water, the sources said. Villagers made several representations to the Jaffna District Government Agent, Jaffna district parliamentarians and other related welfare organizations and local authorities with no response. Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Mr.Suresh Premachchandran Friday contacted the Government Agent and briefed him about the plight of villagers and the result of the talks is yet to be seen, the sources said.
