Collection of best Tamil poems of NE students released

A collection of 100 Tamil poems of young poets selected from the works of students studying in Tamil medium schools in the Northeast Province and named ‘Puthuthalir Nooru’ was released Friday at an event held in Trincomalee Vigneswara Maha Vidiyalayam by the Northeast provincial Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs.
Mr.R.Sivanandan, Senior Assistant Secretary of Provincial Education Ministry presided. The guest of honour was Mr.S.Mahalingam, Deputy Chief Secretary (Finance) of the NEPC. Mr.Puratchi, LTTE Trincomalee Students Division Head deputized Mr.Mr.S.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head who was to participate as the chief guest.

North East Provincial Cultural Affairs department held a series of workshops in all districts of the province for students to expose their creative and literary talents in writing poems. The selection of one hundred poems was made among several hundreds poems submitted by students participated in such workshops. Compilation of best poems was made by a group of scholars led by Dr.S.Yogarajah, Head of the Tamil Department in the East University and assisted by Mr.K.Vilavaretnam, Mr.Nanthini Xavier and Mullaikones. Dr.Yogarajah made the release address. Ms N.Srithevi, Assistant Director of Cultural Affairs made the welcome address.
