"The reason for the decline of standard of education in Jaffna district is
ignoring the development of rural schools when allocating funds," said
Mr.Mavai Senathirajah, Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA)
parliamentarian when addressing the first consultation meeting held Friday
to review the progress of education development in Jaffna education zone,
sources said.
The meeting was held at the conference hall of the Jaffna zonal education
office and presided by Zonal Director of Education Mr.V.Vigneswaran. TNA
parliamentarians Mr.K.Sivanesan, Mr.Suresh Premachchandran, Mr.S.Gajendran
and Ms Pathmini Sithamparanathan, Thamileelam Education Unit Deputy Head
Mr.Arun and several divisional education officers also participated in the
conference. Mr.Mavai Senathirajah said more funds are allocated and more teachers
appointed to urban schools in the district thus neglecting rural schools.
Resources should be distributed equal to all schools in the district, he
stressed. " We should hold regular discussion with academicians and educationists to
uplift the education," Mr.Mavai Senathirajah said. Parliamentarian Mr.Suresh Premachchandran said leading schools in the
Jaffna district still receive funds for their development. This has created
a situation for rural students to leave their schools thus seeking
admission to leading urban schools.
