SLMM Head meets Thamilchelvan

Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), Major Gen.(retd) Trond Furuhovde, met Head of LTTE's Political Wing, S.P Thamilchelvan, at the LTTE Peace Secretariat Building in Kilinochchi, Thursday LTTE sources said. The necessity to co-ordinate urgent matters through the Peace Secretariat, Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) and issues related to district level celebration planned by the LTTE for the Martyrs Day on 27 November were discussed at the meeting, sources said.

"The peace process in its entirety stems from the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) and therefore the SLMM has a major and challenging responsibility to upgrade, if necessary, to maintain and implement in full the CFA without infringing on the spirit and letter of it," the LTTE Peace Secretariat website quoted Thamilchelvan as saying to the SLMM head.

While acknowledging the pride Tamil people should feel in celebrating the Martyr's day event, Mr Fruhovde, is quoted as saying "it is equally essential to conduct these commemorations in the most peaceful manner without prejudice and provocation to anyone and it is only by doing so that we fully respect the Martyrs," the website said.
