Special leave for public servants

The Sri Lanka's Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs and Plantation Industries has issued a circular which states that any public service official working in the island's north and east who is unable to report to work due to military activity would be granted special leave, said sources in Jaffna.

The circular goes on to say that in the event special leave is requested by an employee, the departmental head should communicate with the Secretary, Ministry of Defence to ascertain whether such military activity did take place.

This move follows repeated complaints by government employees in north and east that frequent cordon and search operations have impeded them from reporting to their places of work.
