Sewing machines donated under self-employment project

Trincomalee District Affected Students' Fund Thursday donated three sewing machines, through the Liberation Tigers Women Political Wing in Trincomalee district, to mothers of students who have been affected by the two-decade-old war, to generate self-employment . Colonel Sornam, Trincomalee district military commander of the LTTE handed over the sewing machines to the recipients at an event held in the premises of LTTE Trincomalee district women political wing office located in Chenaiyoor, sources said.

Mr.Kanagasabai Thevakadachcham, a well known Tamil writer and the founder president of the Trincomalee District Affected Students' Fund handed over the sewing machines first to Ms Kaaronja, head of LTTE Trincomalee women political wing and thereafter by Colonel Sornam to recipients, sources said. Later addressing a meeting attended by the villagers of the area Ms Kaaronja thanked Mr.Thevakadachcham for the generous donation. She said mothers of affected students will immensely benefit by this donation as they can readily generate income from self-employment that can support their families. Mr.Thevakadachcham said that "members of affluent society in our midst to come forward to provide immediate assistance to mothers living under poverty line to start some form of self-employment projects for their survival." Mr.Ratnasingham, Principal of Chenaiyoor Central College also spoke.
