Closed hospital awaits opening

The Siththa-Ayurveda Hospital (Siththa-Ayurvda is a system of indigenous medicine popular among the Tamils) at Mamunai 36 km north-east of Jaffna in an LTTE controlled area, has not been reopened after it was closed when the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) occupied the Jaffna peninsula, said sources in Jaffna.

Despite the Mamunai Social and Economic Organisation, an NGO, requesting the SLA and other relevant civilian authorities to have the hospital reopened, there had been reluctance on the part of authorities to do so due to the hospital being situated in an area under the control of the LTTE.
