Swiss envoy opens school building in Chavakachcheri

Mr.Bernadino Regazzoni, Swiss envoy in Sri Lanka Saturday declared open a
new school building constructed at a cost of about 7.5 million Sri Lankan
rupees in the Chavakachcheri Drieberg College in Jaffna district. The Swiss
Agency for Development and Co-operation (SDC) provided the necessary funds
to this project, sources said.
The Chavakachcheri Drieberg College was completely destroyed in the year
2000 when the Sri Lanka Army launched a major military operation in
Thenmaradchchi division, sources said The new building comprises rooms for primary classes and teaching
activities, sources said.
Ms L. Bernadino, Thenmaradchchi Divisional Secretary Mr.S.Srinivasan and
Thenmaradchchi Zonal Director of education Mr.V.Selvarajah also attended
the event, sources said. Mr.Bernadino addressing the gathering said his government would continue to
support the rehabilitation and development of the education system in the
Jaffna district, which had been destroyed in the two-decade-old war. Later he visited the Jaffna office of the Swiss Agency for Development and
Co-operation, which is located in Nallur, sources said.
