First Taskforce Unit meets in Puthukkadu

One of the units of the Disaster Management Taskforce setup by the Head of the Political Wing of the LTTE, S.P.Thamilchelvan, met Tuesaday at 9.15am at its new offices in Puthukkadu juncion on A9 near Thalaiyady, Vadamaradchy East, Sudar, an official with the LTTE Peace Secretariat told TamilNet. S.Thangan, Deputy Head of LTTE Political Wing, presided the meeting.

Government Agents of Mannar, Kilinochchi, Jaffna GA's representative, Representatives of Internation NGOs, UNICEF, UNHCR and ICRC, Head of LTTE Women's Political Wing, Thamilini, Special Commander of Sea Tigers, Mangales, And J Maheswaran participated in the meeting attended by more than 100 people.

Mr Thangan said the primary aim of the Taskforce is to co-ordinate the relief effort, especially the aid flowing into the region so that aid can be channelled to the regions determined by the Taskforce as the most needy.

He added that more than 1000 cadres of the LTTE are involved in the rescue operations in Vadmaradchy east and 47 additional bodies have been recovered in Vadamaradchy East region today.
