The recently acquired Fire Finder Radars have been deployed by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in the Operation Jayasikurui area to identify the LTTE mortar positions, said SLA sources in Vavuniya.
The heavy barrages of LTTE mortar and artillery have contributed to the slowing of the Operation Jayasikurui, which was launched in May last year. Acquisition of the US manufactured radars by the SLA was announced earlier this year. Meanwhile, fighting is reported between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan Army in Olumadu, 4 km east of Mankulam said SLA sources in Vavuniya. Further details are not yet known. However, Sri Lankan Air Force jets were called in to support the ground troops, they said. Elsewhere, the Liberation Tigers fired mortars on the Forward defenses of the Vangalai SLA camp, south of Mannar last night around 10.30 p.m., said SLA sources in Mannar. Some SLA soldiers were injured in the attack, they said.
