CTTU to contribute to Tsunami relief fund

Twenty thousand member strong Ceylon Tamil Teachers' Union (CTTU) Saturday appealed to its members to donate one month's salary or the salary increase of Rs: 2,500 from December last year to the relief fund of the Tsunami victims in the northeast province. The CTTU launched a special relief fund to assist Tsunami victims, said CTTU general secretary Mr.T. Mahasivam.

He said his union has decided to donate one hundred thousand rupees to the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) as its first instalment to the relief of Tsunami victims.

The CTTU requested all teachers, principals, students and non-academic staff to provide assistance to relief work, sources said.
