PDS sets in motion the needs assessment for tsunami relief

The Planning and Development Secretariat (PDS) of the Liberation Tigers has already set in motion the needs assessment process for Tsunami Relief in the northeast, Mr. S. P. Thamilchelvan, Head of the LTTE's Political Wing told TamilNet Tuesday.
 "The PDS is currently active in assessing the immediate, short and long-term needs of the tsunami ravaged areas of northeast. The needs assessment will cover relief, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and the rebuilding of the economies that were damaged as well as the health needs and needs for ensuring the protection of the people", Mr. Thamilchelvan said. PDS assessment will be carried out on a district basis and it will incorporate
mechanisms for the participation of the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL), he added. Meanwhile, expatriate Tamil experts are already in the northeast to assist in the assessment process, sources in Kilinochchi said.
