Three killed in Batticaloa

A youth identified as Krishnapillai Jegan was shot and killed by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Sri Lankan Police at Ampalathadichanthi (junction) in Akkaraipattu yesterday around 5 p.m, said local recidents.

The STF said they opend fire when the youth tried to run seeing them. The body of the youth was later handed over to the Akkaraipattu police.

Local resident, however, said the youth has nothing to do with the Liberation Tigers.

The SLA said they shot and killed the youth after the attack on SLA soldiers at Maavadivembu on the Batticaloa-Valaichenai road. Twe SLA soldiers were killed in the attack.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Army handed over bodies of two youths to the Batticaloa Hospital yesterday. The bodies have not been idetified yet.
