Canadian Parliamentarian meets with TRO leadership

Mr.Jim Karygiannis, Canadian Liberal MP for Scarborough-Agincourt visited Tamil’s Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) Head Office in Kilinochchi Friday. He was received by Mr.K.P.Regi, Executive Director of TRO, and Mr.Lawrence Christy, Planning Director of TRO.

Mr.Jim Karygiannis was explained of the present situation after Tsunami disaster, TRO’s activities in relation to rapid rescue, relief and transition relocation for the benefit of the Tsunami victims in collaboration with all the stake holders – government district secretaries and international non governmental and UN organizations, TRO sources in Kilinochchi said. Future plans for permanent resettlement and reconstruction which involves secure permanent housing, protective walls against tidal waves, livelihood assistance, social and economic infrastructures and capacity building were presented to him, sources said. Mr.K.P.Regi thanked the Canadian government and the Tamil diaspora living in Canada for their generous help to the Tsunami affected people. Mr. Regi expressed his concern that the registration of TRO as a charity organization in Canada has been in pending for several years, sources added.
