WFP Executive Director meets with Thamilchelvan

Executive Director of World Food Programme (WFP), Mr.James T. Morris, met with the LTTE's Political Head Mr. S.P.Thamilchelvan and expressed encouragement by the timely engagement of LTTE and the TRO in feeding displaced people, according to a news release issued by the LTTE Peace Secretariat.

"We are happy and very much encouraged by the timely offer of your organisation of its co-operation in our efforts to feed the displaced people” quoted the LTTE Peace Secretariat, Mr. Morris as saying.

Mr. Thamilchelvan expressed "full satisfaction of the services rendered by WFP and the UN family in general and recalled that UN was always with the Tamil people during difficult times of mass displacements caused by military operations in the past", LTTE's news release said.

"Local WFP representative Mr. Ryan drew attention to the WFP assessments made prior to Tsunami in the area of malnutrition among children below 5 years and stressed the importance of continued focus on that most vulnerable segment of the society even in areas that have not had the Tsunami impact" the news release further noted.
