Troops loot unoccupied houses

Unoccupied houses in the coastal areas of Vadamaradchi that come under Sri Lanka Army (SLA) control are being stripped bare of furniture, fittings and other goods by the soldiers, who take them away to be sold, said sources in Jaffna.

The houses, which have been closed after their residents became displaced due to military operations in the area, are most at risk.

There is no indication that SLA personnel are either caught or punished for looting.
