German agency delivers relief supplies to Muslim villages

The Director of Asian German Sports Exchange Programme (AGSEP) Dr. Dietmar Doering Recently handed over 10 container loads of emergency medical relief supplies, which included school books, toys for mentally traumatized children, blankets, clothing and cooking utensils to be distributed to tsunami affected families in Ninthavur, Kalmunai, Maruthamunai, Katthankudi, Mutur and Kinniya areas in the eastern province, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) said Sunday.
Mr. Doering said his organization hasa also deployed a group of university students from West Germany to carry out relief work in affected villages. The relief suppliers were handed over to Srilanka Muslim Congress leader Rauff Hakeem and Colombo district organiser Shafeef Rajabdeen for distribution. Six Containers have been dispatched to Trincomalee and Batticalo and four containers to Ampara, according to SLMC officials. SLMC leader and Ampara district Parliamentarian Mr. Hakeem has also requested Asian German Sports Exchange programme to set up a trauma relief centre in Nilaveli, Trincomalee within a fortnight. This centre would be manned and monitored by the Asian German Sports Exchange and members of the Trincomalee Civic District Organisation. A top official of the kalmunai Education zone also said that relocating 4 completely damaged Muslims schools in his zone from their current locations had been a problem due to land shortage.
