Chemmani medical reports with Attorney General

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sri Lanka Police has informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate Ms. Sarojini Kusala Jayawardene that forensic reports about the twenty-one human skeletons exhumed from Chemmani graveyard in Jaffna with the Attorney General, legal sources said.

The Chemmani graveyard massacre case came up for inquiry Friday in the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court. CID in its report said that it had received forensic reports on six human skeletons from London Medical Research Institute and 15 human skeletons from the Judicial Medical Officer. Those reports have now been handed over to the Attorney General Department for further action, legal sources said.

Further inquiry was fixed for March 11, sources said.

Bodies of Tamil youths were exhumed from the Chemmani graveyard near Jaffna town following representations and agitations by civil groups and human rights organizations that several youths murdered after their arrest during military operations in 1996-1997 were buried near Chemmani SLA checkpoint.
