Vadamaradchi East Fisheries Co-operative Societies Union (VEFCSU) has requested the Government of Sri Lanka to take immediate steps to allow all Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) to resettle in their own lands in Nagarkovil West, Nagarkovil East, Nagarkovil South and Amban East, which are located inside
the high security zone (HSZ), sources said.
VEFCSU in its memorandum states although three years
have passed since the signing of the ceasefire agreement (CFA) normalcy has not returned to the lives of internally displaced families in the Vadamaradchchi east division as their houses and lands are occupied by the government troops in demarcated areas by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) as high security zones. There the government should immediate steps to bring back normalcy in the IDPs lives. VEFCSU has asked the government why the tsunami affected people of the north coastal areas are not provided with relief, and rehabilitation assistance on the same level as with the people of the south. VEFCSU said it condemns the killings of LTTE political cadres at a time the people are expecting the resumption of peace talks. The government should ensure that no such political killing take place. The government should take urgent steps to find an interim solution thus paving the way for the resumption of stalled peace talks with the LTTE, VEFCSU said.
