SEDB distributes solar power units to Mulankavil villagers

The Socio Economic Development Bank (SEDB) headquartered in Killinochchi Friday evening distributed eleven solar power units on a loan scheme to its customers to provide electricity to Mulankavil, a village which is located about 45 km west of Killincochi along Poonagari-Mannar road, under its first phase of rural electrification project, sources said.

Mr.P.Sriskandarajah, Director of the SEDB presided.

Mr.Chandrapalan, Grama Sevaka Officer of Kariyalai-Nagapaduwan lighted the traditional lamp. Mr. Thamilarasan, Mulankavil Division Political head and Mr.Wilson of Thamileelam Police Force for Nachchikudah division hoisted the Tamileelam flags, sources said.

Mr.Nagalingam, Grama Sevaka Officer in his keynote address said the SEDB has come to the rescue of the villagers who have been neglected in past without basic facilities such as electricity and housing. The SEDB's loan arrangements will help the villagers immensely, he added.

Mr. Sasiyugan, Mannar branch manager of the SEDB proposed vote of thanks.

Mr.Sivasami, Co-ordinator of the Poonagari-Mulankavil Development Organization, Mr.T.Vaseeharan, Co-ordinator of Kariyalai Nagapaduwan Development Organization, Mr.Thamilarasan, Mulankavil Political Head, Mr.Wilson of the Nachchikudah Police Force, Mr.K.Pirapaharan, Killinochchi Manager of the SEDB, Mr.Chandrapalan, Grama Sevaka Officer, Mr.Inthiralingam, Nachchikudah Traders Association and Mr.P.Sriskandarajah, Director of SEDB distributed the solar power plants to eleven customers of the SEDB.

Mr.N.Inthiralingam, a tailor by profession and a beneficiary of the SEDB loan scheme said, "I started my profession with loans obtained from the SEDB. The SEDB has now provided solar power plants to our village on a loan scheme, which will benefit our children in their educational development. We would be in a position to repay the loan with our increased income following the electrification."
