UK medical team concludes tsunami mission

London medical team comprising 152 members and sponsored by London Sai Samithi after completing its humanitarian mission in tsunami affected coastal areas in the northeast and south, left Colombo Friday, sources said. London medical team conducted clinics in Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Kalmunai in the northeast and in Kamburupitya, Matara and Galle in the south lasting fourteen days since its arrival, one of its three co-ordinators Mr.Anis Patel said.

Several hundred-cataract operations were performed in government hospitals in collaboration with Sri Lankan eye surgeons. In Trincomalee about one hundred and fifty cataract operations were performed, sources said. Concluding event of the medical camp was held in Trincomalee Sai Center Chairman Mr.N.Puhendran in the chair. Mr.S.Sivathasan and Mr.R.Sivanandan, Consultants of the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Ministry and Mr.P.Balavadivel, retired High Court Judge participated in the event.
