Austrian academics, LTTE discuss peace building in Lanka

“LTTE’s concern for the Tamil people is demonstrated by its flexibility,” said Professor Johan Galtung after the LTTE Political Team led by Mr.S.P.Tamilselvan met with Austrian academics in Stadtschlaining, Austria in the Institute for Integrative Conflict Transformation and Peace-building (IICP) Sunday 27 March 2005.



Mr.Tamilselvan presented an overview of the current status of the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA), Peace Process and the post-tsunami management in the NorthEast, LTTE sources said.

Prof Galtung expressed keen interest in the joint mechanism proposals drafted by Norway and was explained in detail the various steps taken by LTTE in good faith to address the humanitarian crisis and build on it to take forward the stalled peace process, sources added.

Associated with the Professor were Ms.Gudrun Kramer, Director, Institute for integrative Conflict Transformation and Peace-building (IICP) and Dr.Wilfried Graf, Senior Reseacher and Advisor for Conflict Transformation.

Professor Galtung is a veteran peace researcher, founder and director of Transcend, an international peace and development network. He is a recipient of several honorary degrees, including the alternative Nobel Peace Prize: the Right Livelihood Award.
