Ex EPDP cadre shot in Batticaloa cinema

An ex EPDP cadre was shot and seriously wounded in a movie theatre in Batticaloa town Tuesday afternoon around 2.40, Police said. A gunman shot Mr. Arumugam Ambikaipahan, 22, at point blank range with a 9 m.m. pistol at Vijaya Theatre, Police said.

The seriously injured ex-EPDP cadre was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Batticaloa Hospital.

EPDP sources in the eastern town told TamilNet that Mr. Ambihaipalan had left the group four months ago.

He is from Kokkaddicholai and currently a resident of Seththukudah, a high security suburb of of Batticaloa town where a large number paramilitaries cadres live.

The gunman got away, according to Batticaloa Police.
