Jaffna protest demands withdrawal of state troops

Large number of Tamil civilians participated in a protest march held in Jaffna town Wednesday demanding the withdrawal of State armed forces enabling the resettlement of hundreds of thousands of internally displaced families in their own lands and houses now being occupied by Sri Lanka government soldiers and restore normalcy in the peninsula, sources said.

The Consortium of Jaffna-Nallur Civil Groups organized the protest march,
which commenced Wednesday morning around 10 a.m. from the premises of
Nallur Kandasamy Temple went through via Point Pedro and Temple Road and
concluded in front of the office of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission
(SLMM), sources said. Mr.S.Sivagnanasegaram, Secretary of the Consortium then handed over a
memorandum to the Jaffna head of the SLMM. Police riot squads were deployed along the route the protest march went to
quell any disturbances, sources said.
