ICRC escorts injured LTTE cadre to Trinco hospital

Injured cadre of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Friday's dawn attack on the LTTE sentry point in Poonagar by an unidentified group in army uniforms was admitted to the Trincomalee general hospital Sunday afternoon for further treatment as his condition is reported critical. He was taken to the hospital by road from Kaddaiparichchan army sentry by representatives of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) on a request by the LTTE Trincomalee district political head Mr.S.Elilan, sources said.

In the Poonagar attack one LTTE helper died and another injured.

Injured LTTE cadre was not allowed by SLA soldiers stationed at Kaddaiparichchan army camp putting condition that he could not travel with his colleagues from Kaddaiparichchan to Trincomalee but could do so alone.

After waiting for about three hours from seven p.m. Saturday the injured was taken back to Sampoor, which is located in the LTTE controlled Muttur East by his colleagues, sources said.

Mr.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head took up this matter with the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Trincomalee who in turn contacted the SLA higher ups in Trincomalee. But the SLA refused to change their earlier stand.

The ICRC Sunday afternoon provided escort to the injured cadre to travel to Trincomalee from Kaddaiparichchan by road. He was admitted to the Trincomalee general hospital in the east port on the same day.

The SLA also provided escort, sources said.
