Annai Poopathi death anniversary observed in NorthEast

Seventeenth death anniversary of Annai Poopathi, who fasted unto death on 19 April 1988 after placing five demands to the Government of India, was
observed in the NorthEast province Tuesday. Several hundreds of students, men and
women participated in token fast held separately in the five divisions of
the Jaffna district Tuesday, organizers said.
Large number of civilians attended the fasting held at Kittu park in Nallur
Muththirasanthi, Jaffna town, Alvai Muttumari Amman Kovil premises for
Vadamaradchchi division, and Sangaththanai Murugamoorthy Kovil premises for
Thenmaradchchi division.
Fasting was held also in Kayts and Valigamam divisions
too, sources said.
Ms Sasirekha, President of Nallur division women consortium presided over
the Jaffna event.

Mr.C.Ilamparithi, Jaffna district LTTE political head
made the keynote address. Ms Poomagal, LTTE Nallur division women wing head
hoisted the Thamileelam national flag, sources attending the event said.
Several others including Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance
parliamentarian Mr.S.Gajendran also spoke.
Token fast was held Tuesday from morning till afternoon in remembrance of
Annai Poopathi at Children's park in Mannar town. Mr.Mudiarasan, Mannar
town political head hoisted the Thamileelam national flag. Mannar Tamil
Reawakening Forum organized this event. Fasting was held in Murunkan,
Pesalai, Uyilankulam and Talaimannar, sources said.
In the Trincomalee district Annai Poopathi death anniversary day was
observed at Vakarai division Tuesday, sources said.
Annai Poopathi demanded the Indian government to stop the war with the LTTE and
to initiate talks with the LTTE, during her fast unto death campaign.
