Youths shot in Pulmoddai

One Tamil youth was killed and two Muslim youths were wounded when Sri Lankan Army troops opened fire in Pulmoddai, north of Trincomalee, Friday night, said sources.

The wounded, Abdhul Lathip Raheem, 24 and Musthapha Ibrahim, 23 have been admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital, where they are being treated for gun shot injuries.

The injured youths said that they were on their own when they were shot at by unidentified gunmen on Friday night, and they did not know the identity of the youth whose body was found in the vicinity of where they were shot at.

Sri Lankan police sources said that the Sri Lankan Army troops who went in search of the local leader of the Liberation Tigers had shot and killed a youth, whom they said was his body guard, identified as Ramanan.

The SLA had claimed that they had also recovered a grenade from the dead youth.

Meanwhile the SLA sources in Vavuniya said that they had sniped and killed three members of the Liberation Tigers in the general area of Mankulam yesterday.
