NGOs fund new boat yard and pre-school in Muttur East

Cooperazione Internazionale Sud-Sud (CISS), an Italian Non-Governmental Organization, is providing financial support for the construction of a new boat building yard in Eachchilampathu division to supply fibre glass boats to tsunami affected fishermen. The project was initiated by the Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) Saturday with Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district
parliamentarian, laying the foundation stone, sources said.
In the afternoon, Mr Thurairetnasingam laid the foundation stone for a pre-school in Kallady village, also in LTTE controlled Muttur east, sources said.
The boat yard is expected to provide at least two hundred boats for the tsunami affected fishermen of Eachchilampathu division in the first few months.
Dr.Premananthan, Medical Officer of the Eachchilampathu government hospital lit the traditional oil lamp. Mr.R.Vincent, TRO's Tusnami Reconstruction Programme Director unveiled the name board of the project. Mr. S.Wijekumar, TRO Trincomalee District Director was also present.
Kallady pre-school is being funded by Room-to-Read, an American NGO. Mr.R.Vincent, TRO Tsunami Reconstruction
Programme Director lit the traditional oil lamp. Mr.Muhunthan unveiled the name board of the project.
Operation USA, another American NGO in collaboration with TRO, is rebuilding Kallady Village that will include community center, health center, mobile health clinic, 235 houses, wells and toilets, for a cost of nearly $1.6m.
CISS was founded in 1985 in Palermo Italy. CISS promotes international collaboration for the development of Third World countries, focusing on support for agricultural production, development of rural areas and local communities, support for cooperatives and associations of small producers, refugees, water and income generation.
