CHC conducts eye, dental clinics

The Centre for Health Care (CHC), a Non Governmental Organization head quartered in Kilinochchi, that offers medical services, is conducting eye clinics in the refugee camps along the coastal areas of Amparai and Batticaloa districts, and dental clinics in Tsunami affected areas and underprivileged distant villages in Amparai district, officials of CHC said.







The Optometrists from Australia together with CHC doctors, medical students, para-medics and CHC volunteers visited the refugee camps and underprivileged villages and conducted eye clinics. People with defective vision and minor eye ailments were treated.

CHC staff examined nearly 3,700 cases and gave away close to 3,000 eye glasses free of charge or at reduced rate.

CHC's dental therapists and surgeons examined nearly 2500 patients including several hundred pre-school children and more than 1500 patients with dental problems were treated in Amparai district.

CHC staff used modern dental equipments for cleaning, filling and extraction of teeth and advised the patients of general hygiene and the importance of longterm dental care.

The CHC is planning to extend this service to Batticaloa and Vahara areas in the near future, according to CHC staff.
