Empty fire engines standby as fire destroys Jaffna shops

Four shops at the Old Park road- Kandy road junction, near Jaffna Kachcheri were were destroyed by fire which broke out around 7 p.m. TamilNet correspondent in the northern town said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Workers at businesses around the area and residents who were putting out the fire were appalled when the fire engines belonging to the Jaffna Municipal Council came to the scene with empty water tanks.
