Karuna Group cadre shot dead in Valaichenai

Paramilitary Karuna Group cadre, Mr. Karuwathamby Packiyarajah (48), was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen Sunday night. Valaichenai Police recovered the dead body Monday morning in Aalankulam in Valaichchenai. The assailants had used a T-56 assault rifle to gun down the paramilitary cadre, according to the Police.

The body with gunshot wounds in head was found in Sri Lanka Army (SLA) controlled area of Alankulam, located 47 km north of Batticaloa and 8 km off the Batticaloa - Polannaruwara (Welikanda) road.

Valaichenai Police ASP, N. B. Kumaranathunga, is conducting the investigations into the killing, Police said.
