Gurunagar mourns its two youths, observes Hartal

General shut down was observed Saturday in Gurunagar, a coastal suburb of the Jaffna town condemning the killing of two youths of the area Mr.Francis Renecial (25) and his cousin Mr.Devadas Emmanuel (26) in Colombo near Ponnambalavanes- warar Temple on June 5th by unidentified men. Gurunagar residents and relatives of the dead demanded a judicial inquiry into the killings.
Gurunagar United Front organized the hartal, civil society sources said. General shut down coincided with the burial of the bodies of the two youths Saturday. Shops were closed and fishermen did not go for fishing as the village residents observed a day of mourning. Bodies of two youths were taken in a procession Saturday evening and kept in Gurunagar Open Air Theatre where a condolence meeting was held. A memorandum was handed over to the Jaffna regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and Fr P.J.Bernard of a leading civil group to take steps to exert pressure on the authorities concerned to bring the
culprits involved in the murder before court of law, sources said.
