Koushalyan Medical Unit serves villagers

Lt.Colonel Koushalyan Mobile Medical Service (KMMS) conducted its second medical camp in Vavuniya North on Thursday and Friday, sources said. KMMS was established to serve people in remote villages in the NorthEast where residents undergo untold hardships in obtaining access to basic medical care.
 About four hundred and fifty students attending schools in Palamoddai,
Kovilkunchcukulam, and Matharpanikarmakilankulam attended the medical
clinic on the first day. Dr. (Ms) Elumathi Karikalan, Consultant of the
Thyagi Thileepan Medical Service provided consultation, sources said Surgery, dental treatment and medical consultations were held. Students
were provided with toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste. Medical volunteers made house-to-house visit to conduct health awareness programme, sources said. Villagers of Vavuniya North welcomed the KMMS project as they can now avoid crossing army sentry points to got to Vavuniya Hospital or to Mallavi hospital for medical consultations and treatment. Rural Development Bank also conducted its mobile service in the Vavuniya
North coinciding with the KMMS, which conducted its first mobile medical
service last month in Veravil in Mannar district. More than three thousand
people attended the medical camp, sources said. The next medical camp of the KMMS is to be held 10 July in Mullaitivu district, sources said.
