Fasting campaign held in Chavakachcheri

First of the series of fasting campaign demanding the establishment of Joint Mechanism structure to rehabilitate and reconstruct the tsunami destroyed coastal areas in the northeast province without further delay was held in Chavakachcheri bus stand Wednesday. Thenmaradchchi Traders' Association organized the event, sources said.
Priest Veerabadra Sarma started the the fast with a religious ceremonyGeneral shut down was observed in the Chavakachcheri town in response to the call made by the Chavakachcheri Traders' Association, sources said. Copies of memorandum calling for the international community to pressure the Sri Lanka Government to act on resolving matters of urgent concern to Tamil people, including the implementation of Joint Mechanism, were handed over to parliamentarians Maavai Senathirajah, Ms Padmini Sithamparanathan and Mr Sivanesan to be delivered to Norway, Japan and Denmark embassies. Additional copies were handed over to LTTE leaders in Thenmaradchi to be sent to LTTE Leader Pirapaharan and LTTE Leader of Political Wing, S.P Thamilchelvan. The second fasting campaign will be held at Kaithady Junction area on Thursday and at Kodikamam on Friday, sources said.
