Model library opened in Thampalakamam

A model library for Potkerni, a village in Thampalakamam in Trincomalee district, funded by the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) and NGO mainly operating in NorthEast, was opened Wednesday morning at 10.30 am, sources said.
TRO co-ordinator for Thampalakamam, Mr Nallasivam presided the event. Mr Sivarajasingham, administrative head of TRO for Trincomalee district participated in the event as the special guest. The model library is intended to serve the student population in Potkerni and surrounding areas, and the village residents. A village committee was appointed to manage the functioning of the library. TRO officials said cost of regular periodicals and news papers for the library will be funded by the TRO. During the opening ceremony, Thampalagam Regional Secretary Mr Singarajah unveiled the name board. LTTE Political Head for Thampalakamam region, Mr Ilakiyan ceremonially opened the library building by cutting the ribbon. Following this TRO's Nallasivam handed over the building keys to President of Potkerni Village Development Council Mr Thiruchelvam. Several TRO volunteers, school children and village residents attended the opening event.
