Joint Mechanism Bill to be tabled in parliament

Sri Lanka's President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge has decided to table the Joint Mechanism proposal, which details the administrative arrangement with the LTTE to rehabilitate and reconstruct the tsunami destroyed coastal areas in the northeast province, in the parliament next week. The proposal will be signed after the Bill is passed, government sources said.
A decision to this effect was taken at the Cabinet meeting held Wednesday night, government sources said The State run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) and private electronic media also reported the latest development in their news bulletins Thursday morning. Joint Mechanism proposal as a Bill is expected to be tabled on 22 June when the parliament is scheduled to meet on the day. Meanwhile Ms Kumaratunge is expected to hold crucial
discussions with Buddhist prelates and political and civil leaders during the weekend, government sources said.
