Police Sergeant shot dead in Serunuwara

Police sergeant Mr.M.Muthubanda (35) of Kantalai Police was shot dead Friday night around 7.45 p.m.in Serunuwara by unidentified gunmen who came in a push bicycle, Police said. At that time of incident he was standing in front of the Serunuwara government hospital.

Serunuwara is located south of Trincomalee.

Mr.Muthubanda was a resident of Serunuwara and had come on leave to visit his home village, police said.

The body of Mr.Muthubanda has been taken to the Serunuwara hospital for postmortem examination, hospital sources said.

Police immediately began investigation into the killing, sources said.
