Token fast held in Trinco in support of aid deal

One-day token fast was held in Trincomalee town Monday from morning till evening demanding the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) to sign the joint mechanism with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to facilitate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the tsunami destroyed coastal
areas in the northeast province without any delay. Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples Forum (TDTPF) organized the event.
Government troops and policemen provided tight security to during the token fast that took place in Sivan Kovil veethi in the heart of east port town. Brahma Sri Ravaichchandrakurukal first lit the traditional oil lamp followed by Rev.Fr.Annathas and Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee
district parliamentarian and several others. TDTPF President Mr.V. Vigneswaran made the inaugural address. Mr.Thurairatnasingham said the government should first sign the joint mechanism with the LTTE instead of tabling it first in the parliament. Several others also spoke. The second day one day token fast is to be held Tuesday in the village of Salli, about 5 k.m. north of eastern port town.
