JVP files case against P-TOMS

The former coalition partner of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), the marxist Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Monday filed a case against the Post-Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS) agreement signed between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers. The case was filed at the Colombo District Courts.

The JVP's Western Province councilor Vas Gunawardene accompanied by the JVP Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti urged court action against PTOMS through their Attorney-at -law Sunil Wattawala at 3 PM Monday.  The plaintiffs have mentiond that the P-TOMS should be made null and void, and that the court should place an interim injunction with immediate effect on its authority to divest development funds. Mr M S Jayasinghe, Secretary of Ministry of Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation, Mr. Shanmugalingam Ranjan, Deputy Head of Planning and Development Secretariat (PDS) of the LTTE who had signed the PTOMS, Attorney General Mr KC Kamalasabesan and the Secretaries to the Minstries of Finance and the President have been mentioned as respondents in the JVP's legal action against the PTOMS, legal sources said.
