Housing scheme for Muttur east war affected

Foundation stones were laid Monday to the first house in a housing project for war victim families sponsored by the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) in Pattalipuram village in the LTTE held Muttur east in Trincomalee district, sources said. 250 houses are to be built as part of this project.
Funding for the project is being provided by the UK based White Pigeon organization.
The beneficiary of the first house is Mr.P.Kaththamuttu, sources said. Mr.S.Wijekumar, TRO Trincomalee District Director, Thamileelam Police Trincomalee district head Mr.A.Vincent, TRO Trinco deputy director Mr.C.Kumarakuruparan and Mr.Chandralingam, Pattalipuram Grama Sevaka Officer lit the traditional oil lamp. district political head hoisted the Thamileelam national flag. Mr.V.Kalaivarnan, TRO Trincomalee district project officer presided. Mr.Elilan said only with the constructive contribution of the beneficiaries the village could be developed in all spheres. Each house will be constructed at a cost of about 500,000 rupees, TRO sources said. Infrastructure facilities will also be developed for the housing scheme. Pattalipuram is a remote village where people live in makeshift huts with little basic facilities, sources said.
