Mannar schools receive Photovoltaic systems

Mannar branch of the The Economic Consultancy House (TECH), an NGO working to promote economic development in the NorthEast, gave Solar lighting systems to fifteen schools in Mannar which do not have electric supply at an event Monday held at Mannar Karungandal Roman Catholic Mixed School, presided by LTTE's Mannar district Political Head, Mr Iniyavan, sources said.
The financial support for the equipment was provided byt he TECH branch in the U.S., organizers of the event said. TECH has been distributing Solar lighting systems to schools and pre-schools in deprived areas in the NorthEast to encourage after school education, officials said. In the Mannar event Mr Cheliyan, TECH's Mannar's co-ordinator lit the ceremonial lamp. Deputy Head of LTTE's Political Wing, S Thangan hoisted the Tamil Eelam flag. Canadian representative V Patterson, TECH's Executive Director S Suhunanan, Director M Sunderamoorthy, Teacher at Roman Catholic School Mr Tharmaseelan, Madhu District Education Officer Mr Emilyan Pillai, Mannar District Student Association Representative Mr Vengai, representatives from the schools receiving the Solar equipment and members of the public attended the event.
